14K is one of the leading triads active in Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China. In the 1900s, it was one of the largest groups in the triad, but it is now shrinking due to repeated splits, and its current membership is estimated to be in the tens of thousands. They have secured large scale drug routes around the world and are involved in a wide range of other criminal activities such as robbery, contract murder, money laundering and hacking.

14K is said to be affiliated with the Hong Kong government because of their members' assault on protesting citizens, but the reality is unclear because the 14K itself is an organization with a character similar to that of a secret society.

History

During Chinese Civil War, they were formed as an anti-communist organization, the "Fourteenth Association," by Kot Siu Wong, a lieutenant general of the Kuomintang in Guangzhou at the time. The name "14K" is said to represent the initials of Kowloon, where 14 was the road number of the headquarters office at the time and K was the initials of Kowloon. After the Kuomintang lost the Civil War, they fled to Macau, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, respectively, where they became the criminal organization today. In 1999, many of their members were arrested due to their involvement in multiple incidents, and since the crackdown in Macau, they have reunited in the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
