- October - Opechancanough, the Paramount Chief of the Powhatan Confederacy, is murdered while in English custody after being captured by forces under command of Sir William Berkeley, the governor of the Colony of Virginia. Shortly afterwards, a peace treaty is signed by the Powhatan tribe and the Virginia Assembly, ending the Third Anglo-Powhatan War.
