* January 7, - An impeachment-related resolution is introduced by James Mitchell Ashley against [[Andrew Johnson|President Andrew Johnson]], and rather than going to a direct vote for impeaching the President, it instructed the Judiciary Committee to inquire into President Johnson's conduct. The bill passed in the house 107-89. Before this, there were efforts as early as 1866 to remove Johnson.
