In 1979, his family faced discrimination for their Asian heritage following the [[Iranian Revolution]], and this sparked his interest in [[Militant Islam]], as well as his later acquaintance with Al-Muhajiroun leaders [[Omar Bakri Mohammed]] and [[Anjem Choudary]], which later lead to Saleem becoming spokesperson for Al-Muhajiroun.
