Ahmed Sékou Touré was the African dictator of the Republic of Guinea from 1958 - 1984. Although many consider him a hero for declaring independence from France, he is known to be a corrupt leader. As leader, he imposed harsh laws on his people, many whom lived in abject poverty. He also owned slaves, and he ruled until his death. He was a Muslim.
