Alice Elisabeth Weidel is a far-right German politician.

== Biography ==
=== Early life ===
Alice Elisabeth Weidel was born on February 6th 1979 in Gütersloh and grew up in Harsewinkel and graduated from Versmold's CJD high school. There, she studied political and business economics at the University of Bayreuth. From July 2005 to June 2006 you worked as a private equity analyst at Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt am Main. In 2011, she obtained a PhD from Bayreuth University dealing with the social security system of China.

=== Political career ===
Weidel has joined "Alternative für Deutschland" (AfD) since its foundation, in 2013 he joined the Baden-Württemberg section of the AfD, in 2015 he joined the national council of the party. In the 2016 Baden-Württemberg Landtag elections she ran for the electoral district of Lake Constance, but she was not elected. 

In December 2016, during the talk show Menschen bei Maischberger, he claimed that Angela Merkel was co-responsible for the murder of a young woman in Freiburg im Breisgau. The talk show host was later criticized for giving Weidel space to talk during the show. Following Weidel's speech during his nomination as top candidate, in which he incited the fear of "groping strangers" and incited a commitment to "our values and our identity" he was defined by Alan Posener in the newspaper Die Welt as "the future of the AfD, the new Petry. Charismatic, good looking, intelligent, with good rhetoric and apparently willing to sacrifice principles in the name of power".

At the beginning of March 2017 she was defeated in the election for regional representative at the AfD regional congress by Ralf Özkara. In April 2017, during the national party congress held in Cologne, she was nominated top candidate for the 2017 Bundestag elections together with party president Alexander Gauland. After the national congress, Weidel and Gauland cut off communications with spokesperson Frauke Petry; she declared in August 2017 her willingness to dialogue with the two leading candidates. According to media reports, Weidel voted in favor of the exclusion during the deportation proceedings of Björn Höcke. After his nomination as top candidate Weidel stated that he would also lead the electoral campaign together with Höcke.In the debate surrounding Alexander Gauland's claim that SPD member Aydan Özoğuz was "disposed of in Anatolia", his grandparents' country of origin, Weidel defended Gauland by arguing that the phrase was "a matter of taste", but that in essence Gauland was right.

In the 2017 Bundestagstag elections she was a candidate in the constituency of Lake Constance and was defeated by the CDU candidate Lothar Riebsamen. As the leading candidate on the party list in Baden-Württemberg, she joined the Bundestag, where she is the party leader.

On 5 September 2017, the abandonment of the election broadcast Deutschland, wie geht’s? Aroused the interest of the media. of the national broadcaster ZDF following the request by the general secretary of the CSU Andreas Scheuer to distance himself from Alexander Gauland and Björn Höcke. === Accuses of paying in black ===
Following a search by the newspaper Zeit, Weidel allegedly hired a Syrian refugee as a domestic help. At first a student of Islamic sciences had been hired in Biel, she had then given her place, according to her own statements to the newspaper, to a Syrian refugee. Weidel denied the allegations and his lawyer communicated that it was a frequentation of the house for friendships and without any form of remuneration. Christian Lüth, spokesman for the AfD, pointed out that the wages for domestic help for amounts of less than 750 francs per year are tax-free and should not be reported to the cantonal pension. The student, however, stated in the newspaper that she had received a salary of more than 750 francs, and that she had always been paid in cash.

=== Affaire Extra-3 ===
After her nomination as top candidate, Alice Weidel argued that the concept of "politically correct" belonged to the "dump of history". The phrase was picked up by satirical journalist Christian Ehring in extra 3, who argued: "That's right! Let's put an end to political correctness. The Nazi slut is right. Was this incorrect enough? I hope so." The AfD declared Ehring's exit "offensive and defamatory" and announced legal recourse. Weidel's request for a temporary injunction against the NDR broadcaster was rejected by the Hamburg court.

=== The Email ===
Two weeks before the elections, the Welt am Sonntag newspaper published the text of an e-mail that Weidel had sent on February 24, 2013. The text mentions conspiracy theories belonging to the Reichsbürgerbewegung area, Sinti, Roma and Arabs are defined "peoples without culture by which we are inundated". In a first reaction Weidel denied having ever written that text following these statements the Welt newspaper presented an affidavit of the recipient, Weidel's lawyer then confirmed the exchange of communications and withdrew the falsification charges. Frauke Petry, in an interview with the Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) expressed sympathy for the possible horror of the voters for the text of the communication, a phrase that was interpreted by the newspaper as a distancing of the candidate.

== Ideology ==
According to Weidel, the federal government's asylum policy contravenes "international agreements". She wants a Fortress Europe (Festung Europa) and an "effective development policy". She refuses health insurance for asylum seekers, criticizes what in her opinion is a naïve approach to Islamic extremist preachers, and pointed out that the expectations of refugees' integration into the world of work are too high. She see the influx of refugees as an incalculable burden on the economy and the welfare state. Weidel spoke out in favor of a ban on burkas and niqabs and argued that even the Islamic veil should be "banned in public spaces" as "an absolutely sexist symbol of an apartheid between men and women". Weidel also spoke out in favor of the reintroduction of compulsory conscription for border control, the detention of foreign prisoners outside the borders, the tightening of the procedure for obtaining citizenship and a greater speed of its removal.

Also, Weidel considers the AfD "guarantor of homosexual rights". For this reason, she refuses the asylum request of Muslims and opposes the Islamic religion. Weidel argued that her family policy is more liberal than that of her party, because she defines that "family is where there are children".

== Trivia ==

* Weidel is lesbian and is married with Sarah Bossard (a movie producer). Also, her and her spouse have adopted two boys.
