Branimir Donchev Delchev (October, 4 1957 - February 7, 1975) was a Bulgarian who committed a shooting at a university hostel in Dŭrvenitsa, Sofia, Bulgaria killing 8 people and wounding 8 with a Walther PP pistol and a knife on December 25, 1974.
Background
Branimir Donchev was from an upper class background His father was Deputy Director General of DSO Stara Planina, but spent little time with him. His mother was schizophrenic and committed suicide in 1971. had a brother and a sister, he was mentally ill and He was greatly influenced by everything he saw also did not like Asians. on December 25, 1974 he saw the movie the Godfather with two of his friends went to the home of one of them and played with a Walther PP pistol reenacting scenes from the movie later then went to his cousin's dorm room in the building.
Shooting
Branimir Donchev armed himself with a Walther PP pistol and a knife owned by his father when he arrived at the hostel at 20:35 p.m. and did not find his cousin. He broke into room number 519, shot and killed one person and wounded two, went outside and started shooting and stabbing people in the corridors and dormitories until he was subdued by two students. Branimir fired 26 shots and killed 6 people and wounded 10 in the hostel, two people would later die in the hospital.
Aftermath
Branimir was found insane due to schizophrenic psychosis and was prescribed compulsory psychiatric treatment and committed to a psychiatric hospital in Lovech. his father was sentenced to 4 years in prison for negligent possession of a weapon his brother was also committed to a psychiatric hospital and died in 1988 when he fell from the hospital terrace. on February 7, 1975 Branimir tried to escape but was shot and killed and buried in an unmarked grave.
