After Davies's body was discovered on 1 May, police began looking through CCTV footage and found footage of Healless leaving the scene, making him their number one suspect. Upon his arrest, Healless was found to have contacted several other men on Grindr after killing Davies, suggesting he had been planning to kill other people. Healless admitted to the killing, claiming that his schizophrenia was the cause. This defence was rejected at trial and he was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 24 years. After only two hours in prison, Healless was transferred to a secure psychiatric facility at the request of his doctor.<ref>[https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/grindr-murderer-who-lured-teen-24459183.amp Grindr murderer who lured teen to death spent just 2 hours in prison after being jailed], The Daily Mirror</ref>
