| ==Early life==
| |
| Bryan Kohberger lived in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania for most of his life. His father was a maintenance worker and his mother worked in a school. Two of his high school friends say that he was bullied a lot for being overweight until losing 100 pounds his senior year, after which he became a bully himself, more "self-destructive", and began using heroin, though he committed himself to become sober. Kohberger graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 2013 and attended Monroe Career and Technical Institute in Bartonsville but dropped out. He later attended Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, where he earned an associate's degree in psychology in 2018. After graduating from Northampton, he worked as a security guard for the Pleasant Valley School District while also studying criminology at DeSales University, where he received his B.A. in 2020 and M.A. in 2022. At DeSales, he participated in a research project "to understand how emotions and psychological traits influence decision-making when committing a crime", in which he conducted a survey on Reddit for ex-convicts about the details of their crimes.
