The official name is '''Kwan-li-so (penal labor colony) No. 22.''' The camp is a maximum security area, completely isolated from the outside world. Prisoners and their families are held in lifelong detention. According to a North Korean defector, Camp 22 contained [[Gas Chamber|gas chambers]] where unethical experiments were conducted on whole families. As of 2012, Camp 22 is closed down.
