Ideologically, he identified as aĀ PeronistĀ and supportedĀ economically liberalĀ policies. He led Argentina as president during the 1990s and implemented aĀ free marketĀ liberalizationĀ program to establish a country chronically plagued by political and economic crises. He served as President of theĀ Justicialist PartyĀ for thirteen years (from 1990 to 2001 and again from 2001 to 2003), and his political approach became known asĀ Federal Peronism.
