Individuals, organizations and instruments that favor mutilation / [[dismemberment]] of victims rather than outright [[murder]]. Often mutilation implies a victim will survive for a prolonged period of time, and thus it often overlaps with [[torture]]. 

This can also include self-mutilation, which often appears in sadomasochistic individuals.
