Scandinavian nations saw repeated incidents linked to black metal in the 1990s. The most infamous offender was [[Varg Vikernes]], who was also convicted of [[murder]]ing a fellow musician.
Church burning is the active arson destruction of churches. The activity is commonly known as a symbol of anti-christianity most infamously in Scandinavia. It was widely done by individuals associated with the Black Metal scene in countries such as Sweden and Norway. Church burnings have also been common at other times throughout history. Some of those incidents are listed below.

* The Ku Klux Klan burned down African-American churches, synagogues, mosques and catholic Churches
* In many african countries, Christian churches are burned down by Islamic extremists
