David McNiven is a British man who in 2020 was convicted of holding his girlfriend Naomi Marshall hostage and torturing and threatening to kill her. His motivation for the attack is unknown.
Incident
In June 2019, McNiven barricaded Marshall, who he had been in a relationship with for a month, in his flat and pushed her down before holding a knife to her throat and calling the police, telling them that he had a hostage and was prepared to "cut the pipes", yelling at the operator that he was going to kill her and wanted to be shot. He then threw her to the ground and poured bleach over her, horrifically burning her face, eyes and back before choking her, setting the flat on fire and leaving her to die. She was saved by responding firefighters, and McNiven was arrested. In 2020, he was jailed for seven years for the attack.
