Biography

Wenyu grew up in a broken and neglectful home, leading him to run away at age 11. He received several prison sentences for theft, completing his final sentence in 2002.

From March to May 2006, Wenyu drifted through the Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces robbing houses. His modus operandi was to climb through the window of a house armed with a knife and take everything he wanted. Wenyu was extremely brutal; if the owners woke up he would slit their throats, and he would often rape women he found in the house. Overall, he killed six people (five of them women), seriously injured two people and raped four women who survived his attacks. He also often raped women after he killed them.

Thanks to testimony from the surviving victims, Dong Wenyu was identified as the killer and a warrant was issued for his arrest, triggering a nation-wide manhunt. On 16 November 2006, Wenyu broke into a house in Xiangi Town and stole a mobile phone; however the homeowner woke up and chased him. Wenyu fell out the window and broke his leg, allowing him to be detained by villagers until the police arrived. Upon Wenyu's arrest, his identity was confirmed by a diary found on him detailing his crimes.

Wenyu was indicted for multiple counts of murder, rape, robbery and desecration of a corpse. He was eventually convicted on 8 June 2007 and sentenced to death. Wenyu refused to appeal the sentence, and was executed on 29 November 2007.
