Doxxing, alternatively spelled doxing, is the public leaking of previously private personal informations about a victim, usually through the Internet. It is a violation of the victim's privacy, and is classified as a crime by opponents of doxxers. Doxxing can be performed using social sites, public databases, hacking, social engineering and, through websites such as Grabify, grabbing IP addresses through fake links. Doxing may be carried out for various reasons, including online shaming, extortion, and vigilante aid to law enforcement. It also may be associated with hacktivism.
