Theranos was actively discouraging him from ever testifying in the court where he was told to appear in the court on May 17, 2013 by Luisz's lawyers. Eventually struck by grief and depression, Gibbons committed suicide by taking an overdose of paracetamol and alcohol. By the next morning, his wife found him lying unconscious and was taken to the hospital where he died on May 23, 2013 of liver failure.
