He was twice president, from May 29 to July 13, 2000 and from December 5, 2006 to January 4, 2007 after leading a ''coup d'etat'' on both occasions. His government from 2006 to 2007 was characterized by reprisal, total control of almost all powers and the death of two people, which caused Fiji to be suspended from the Commonwealth. He is currently the Prime Minister of Fiji.
