Franz Stangl was an Austrian born SS commandent of Sobibor and Treblinka extermination camps and was part of the T-4 euthanasia programme which claimed the lives of thousands of people who were "judged incurably sick, by critical medical examination. What makes him less of a human being is the fact he never saw prisoners as human beings but merely as "cargo" and never expressed remorse for his crimes. He admitted to the killings but he also said "My conscience is clear I was simply doing my duty" He was extradited to West Germany and was tried for the deaths of 900,000 people and sentenced to life imprisonment where died after only serving one year in 1971 of heart failure at the age of 63.
