'''Gertrude Baniszewski''' (September 19<sup>th</sup>, 1928 - June 16<sup>th</sup>, 1990) was an American woman who tortured and murdered a 16 year old girl named Sylvia Likens in her own home in the state of Indiana. She encouraged her children and their friends to join in the torture-murder. The crime was considered to be the worst in the state's history.
