Biography

Birth

Giovanni was born on the 10th January 1956 by Raffaele Guido, an official of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, and by Maria Pia Ciampa, who lived with his parents in via Capodistria, in the Trieste district.

Massacre of the Circeo

On the 29th September 1975, Izzo, Guido and Ghira met at 4:00 p.m. with Donatella Colasanti and Rosaria Lopez, two girls who had met a few days earlier through a mutual friend. The two were invited to Circeo, in the villa of Ghira, in the locality of "Punta Rossa": once they reached their destination they were raped, drugged, tortured and massacred for a total of thirty-five hours.

Lopez was eventually taken to the bathroom on the first floor of the villa, where she was beaten and drowned in the bathtub, while Colasanti was nearly strangled with a belt and savagely beaten. The two girls were then hidden in the trunk of the car of Guido's father and then went to have dinner. The lamentations of Colasanti, a survivor of the violence, attracted the attention of a night watchman who gave the alarm.

Izzo and Guido were arrested within a few hours while Ghira went into hiding. On the 29th July 1976, all three were sentenced to life imprisonment in the first degree. The sentence was also confirmed in the subsequent degrees of trial for Izzo and Ghira.

Attempted evasions

In January 1977, Guido and Izzo took a prison guard hostage and attempted to escape from Latina prison, without success. On the 28th October 1980,Gianni Guido's sentence was modified on appeal. The sentence was reduced to thirty years after the declaration of repentance and compensation to the Lopez family. In January 1981, Gianni Guido managed to escape from the San Gimignano prison.

Life abroad

He fled to Buenos Aires, where he was recognized and arrested a little over two years later. Pending extradition, in April 1985 he still managed to escape from the "Manuel Rocco" hospital in Buenos Aires, where he was hospitalized for hepatitis probably contracted years earlier in jail due to the use of drugs taken on the street. In June 1994, he was again captured in Panama, where he had rebuilt a life as a car dealer, and eventually extradited to Italy.
