~ Gracyn Courtright |
Gracyn Courtright is a University of Kentucky student from West Virginia who participated in the 2021 United States Capitol storming. She has received massive attention for her participation in the riots, where she posted on social media that "infamy is just as good as fame", and that she believed that being renown for criminal activity is just as good as being famous.
Given her crimes and involvement with the riots, a petition was started by fellow University of Kentucky student Branden Gobeli calling for the university to expel Courtright. Within 24 hours of its creation, the petition received 500+ signatures.
She was arrested on January 19, 2021. She was given 30 days in prison for her crimes. It is persumed that Courtright will not be allowed back on campus given her crimes.
Trivia
- Before her crimes came to light, she was a Dean's List student at the University of Kentucky.
- Compared to most participants in the U.S. Capitol riots who were staunch Republicans who strongly desired to overturn the election results in favor of Donald Trump, Courtright was a rioter who did not vote in the 2020 election.
