'''Herbert Backe''' (May 1<sup>st</sup>, 1896 – April 6<sup>th</sup>, 1947) was a German [[Nazi]] politician and Obergruppenführer in the ''[[Schutzstaffel]]'', serving as the ''Reichminister'' of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. He was a doctrinaire racial ideologue, a long-time associate of [[Richard Walther Darré]] and a personal friend of [[Reinhard Heydrich]]. 

Backe is responsible for developing the [[Hunger Plan]] that envisioned death by starvation of millions of Jews and Slavs during [[the Holocaust]].
