Jake Thomas Patterson (June 17th, 1997 - ), is an American murderer and kidnapper who kidnapped 13 year old Jayme Closs and murdered her parents James Closs (aged 56) and Denise Closs (aged 46) in Barron, Wisconsin. He kept Jayme captive at a cabin in Gordon, Wisconsin for 88 days before she escaped.

Motive[edit]

Patterson confessed to authorities that he had seen Jayme getting off her school bus while he was driving home from work one month prior and said he "knew that she was the girl he wanted to take."

Double-Homicide and Kidnapping[edit]

In the early morning of October 15th, 2018; Patterson had broke into the Closs' home, fatally shot James and Denise Closs and kidnapped their daughter Jayme Closs. Just before Patterson had killed Jayme's parents, a 911 was made via Denise's cellphone. While Denise or James did not speak to the operator, gunshots and screaming were heard on the other end before the phone disconnected. When police arrived to their home, they found the front door shot open, the bodies of both James and Denise, and the absence of their 13 year old daughter Jayme. It was later said by Patterson himself that during the night of the kidnapping, he had shoved Jayme in the trunk of his car while police sped by.

Sentencing[edit]

On March 27th, 2019; Patterson pleaded guilty to two counts of intentional first-degree homicide and one count of kidnapping. According to Patterson himself, he said he had planned to plead guilty to avoid the trauma from Jayme and her family having to attend the trial should he have pleaded otherwise.

On May 24th, 2019; Patterson was given two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for the murders plus 40 years for the kidnapping.
