==Activities== The League's activities consisted of physically attacking Zionists in public areas to try and counter Zionism. In April 1947, for example, a group of Zionist candidates were elected to the leadership of the Dahir branch of the Maccabi World Union. The resulted was challenged by members of the Jewish Anti-Zionist League and a violent clash erupted. The police were called and sided with the Zionists, arresting the communists because they were seen as a bigger threat to public safety. As a result, the Egyptian Ministry for Social Affairs made the League illegal "for reasons of public safety". In May 1947, two more brawls between Zionists and Jewish communists erupted at the Maccabi club. As a result, the League issued an editorial claiming that Jewish schools were used for Zionist propaganda and that sports clubs like the Maccabi were used for Zionist organizing rather than sports activities.
