The ~~Leagues~~ activities consisted of ~~agitations~~ in ~~Jewish neighbourhoods~~ to try and counter Zionism. In April 1947, for example, a group of Zionist candidates were elected to the leadership of the Dahir branch of the Maccabi World Union. The resulted was challenged by members of the Jewish Anti-Zionist League and a violent clash erupted. The police were called and sided with the Zionists, arresting the communists because they were seen as a bigger threat to public safety. As a result, the Egyptian Ministry for Social Affairs made the League illegal "for reasons of public safety".
