He wanted to take two children, six and eight years old, respectively, home from school, but the driver, Charles Poland, refused to allow it and blocked access to the aisle, and so Dykes shot the driver and took a 5-year-old boy named Ethan (last name unknown). Later, when Ethan was rescued, Dykes was shot dead.
