"Savile was a callous, opportunistic, wicked predator who abused and raped individuals, many of them patients and young people, who expected and had a right to expect to be safe. His actions span five decades -- from the 1960s to 2010. ... As a nation at that time we held Savile in our affection as a somewhat eccentric national treasure with a strong commitment to charitable causes. Today's reports show that in reality he was a sickening and prolific sexual abuser who repeatedly exploited the trust of a nation for his own vile purposes."
— Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health
Sir James Wilson Vincent "Jimmy" Savile (31 October 1926 – 29 October 2011), OBE, KCSG, was an English DJ, television presenter, media personality and charity fundraiser. He hosted the BBC television show Jim'll Fix It, was the first and last presenter of the long-running BBC music chart show Top of the Pops, and raised an estimated £40 million for charities. In the autumn of 2012, a year after his death, ITV journalists broke the news that he was a serial paedophile, and had abused his position as a popular BBC television personality throughout his long career.
It has also been revealed that Savile abused (sexually) patients at mental wards he visited for charity - the patients ranging from children to senior citizens.
He has been described as exhibiting the "Dark Triad" of personality traits by psychologists : psychopathy, malignant narcissism and Machiavellianism.
