Early Life

Cannan was born on 20 February 1954 in Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire. At the ages of 7-8, Cannan was sexually assaulted by a schoolteacher, permanently scarring and changing his life for worse. The trauma and humiliation he experienced as a young kid prompted him to turn to a life of crime and perversion.

(Possible) Victims

He was confirmed to have murdered 29-year-old Shirley Banks in Bristol in 1987. However, it is speculated that he most likely have been responsible for the murder of Suzy Lamplugh following her disappearance. It is unknown when, if true, Cannan murdered Lamplugh, but it she has been declared deceased by officials in 1993, following her reported disappearance in 1986. He was also suspected to be the cause of murder of 27-year-old Sandra Court in 1986, who was confirmed killed by strangulation. However, neither case involving Court or Lamplugh were officially confirmed, and so Cannan was not charged for either case.

It is plausible that before arrest, Cannan had been planning to carry out more serial murders.
