John Hinckley, Jr. (May 29^th, 1955 -) is an American man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan on March 30^th, 1981 in Washington, DC. The motivation for the attack was born after Hinckley watched the 1976 Palme d'Or-winning thriller Taxi Driver 15 times, and he was obsessed with Jodie Foster, the actress who played the 12-year-old prostitute Iris in the film. Hinckley's motive was directly influenced by the movie's main character's obsession with assassinating a presidential candidate. Reagan survived the attempt on his life and Hinckley was immediately apprehended by Secret Service agents. In 2016, Hinckley was released from the psychiatric hospital he had spent 32 years in and now lives with his mother in Williamsburg, Virginia.
