(This is the fate of every tyrant.) and escaped leaving the dying President behind. Some witnesses state that he also yelled "The South's is avenged!" <span style="font-family:sans-serif;line-height:19.1875px;">An army surgeon</span><span style="font-family:sans-serif;line-height:19.1875px;"> saw that Lincoln's wound was mortal.
