===Before the murder=== King had been longtime friends with both Brewer and Berry, and, like Brewer, had formerly been a member of the Texas chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. King had several racist tattoos: a black man hanging from a tree, Nazi symbols, the words "Aryan Pride", and the patch for a gang of white supremacist inmates known as the Confederate Knights of America, which Brewer had also been a member. While in prison, King said that he had been repeatedly gang raped by black inmates.
