He applied the theory of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism on Philippine history and current circumstances. Sison is notable for having been instrumental in starting the Communist insurgency against dictator [[Ferdinand Marcos]] during the [[Proclamation No. 1081|the period of Martial law in the Philippines]].
