Initially serving as an office head in the [[Reich Main Security Office]], he was demoted and transferred to Poland following the [[Blomberg-Fritsch Affair]] and served as Commander of the Warsaw State Police. In this position he was nicknamed "The Butcher of Warsaw" due to his extreme brutality, which saw him sent to Japan as [[Gestapo]] liaison to Tokyo until the end of [[World War II]] and the fall of Nazism.
