His trial commenced on November 30, 2021. His defence argued that the images had been placed on his computer by somebody else, calling an expert witness who testified that it was hypothetically possible for somebody else to have remotely placed the images on Duggar's computer. Under cross-examination, the witness admitted to having mislead the court about the extent of her training in computer studies. Testimony was also heard about Duggar's previous molestation controversy.
