Juan Antonio Hernández Alvarado (born June 13, 1978) is a Honduran convicted drug trafficker former lawyer, politician, member of the National Party of Honduras and former deputy in the National Congress of Honduras (2014–2018) representing Lempira. He is the brother of Juan Orlando Hernández, the current President of Honduras. On November 23, 2018, Juan Antonio Hernández was arrested in Miami on drug trafficking charges. On November 26, 2018, he was formally charged in a federal court with importing tons of cocaine into the United States between 2004 and 2016, as well as on weapons charges

Public charges

Tony had been reelected as a substitute deputy for Samuel Reyes in the 2013 elections, representing the department of Lempira. But he became a proprietary deputy when Reyes was appointed Minister of Defense. He was also a clerk and receiver in the Supreme Court of Justice, Head of the Registry Implementation Unit at the Property Institute and President of the Development and Social Inclusion Commission of the National Congress.

Drug trafficking conviction

On October 13, 2016, the Captain of the Armed Forces Santos Orellana Rodríguez, indicated by the United States of having alleged links with drug trafficking, denounced in a national media that he was offered a million dollars for not reporting on the discovery of a helicopter that supposedly belonged to Tony Hernández and that had drugs. He also said that DEA agents "forced" him to testify against Tony Hernández and Wilter Blanco as those responsible for a plan to assassinate US Ambassador James Nealon.After this, Hernández denied the accusations in a press conference and traveled to the United States in October to give testimony to the Miami Department of Justice. Also in January 2017, he gave statements to the Public Ministry of Honduras.
