==Background and murders==
In October 2009 Maake was released on parole from a 17-year sentence for rape.<ref name=news>[http://www.news24.com/Archives/City-Press/A-match-made-in-hell-20150430 A match made in hell] - News24, November 2010</ref> The following year he joined 1.5 million listeners to Clayson “TC” Monyela's show on Capricorn FM, which featured a lonely hearts slot where the public phoned in to arrange dates.<ref name=news/> Via the show he arranged to meet Catherine Morema<ref name=enca>[https://www.enca.com/south-africa/radio-show-murderer-jailed Radio show murderer jailed] - ENCA, May 2013</ref>, a 25-year-old retail worker from Senwabarwana.<ref name=news/> Maake met Morema in Mahwibidung village before robbing her in a deserted, bushy area and used a cloth to strangle her.<ref name=enca/> Maake robbed her of a handbag containing money, a phone, and a bank card<ref name=stream/> and left her corpse tied to a tree.<ref name=enca/> This murder was in June.<ref name=news/>

The next was in September<ref name=news/> and was of Mahlako Millicent Rachuene<ref name=enca/>, also 25 and from Lebowakgomo.<ref name=news/> The two again met at Mahwibidung and Maake robbed her, and forced her to call her family for ransom money.<ref name=enca/> He bound her hands behind her back and strangled her, using her bank card to steal money from her account.<ref name=stream/> She was also contacted via the radio show.<ref name=news/>

His final victim was Mabotse Sinah Rasebotsa.<ref name=stream/> She was not contacted via the radio show.<ref name=news/> He strangled her and robbed her after meeting her in Silubane village in November.<ref name=stream/>

==Aftermath==
Tip-offs led police to Maake and he was arrested a few months later.<ref name=stream/> He led police to the first victims, one was decomposing and the other was skeletal.<ref name=security>[http://www.security.co.za/news/17153 Murder accused led police to bodies] - Security, Nov 2010</ref> He had their posessions.<ref name=security/> He received a life term for each murder, 15 years for each of three charges of kidnapping, and 15 years for each of three charges of robbery.<ref name=enca/>
