I think you would have done the same for one million marks. Karel Čurda (October 10 1911 - April 29 1947) was a Nazi collaborator from Czechoslovakia, best known for betraying his resistance comrades during Operation Anthropoid. Čurda was an officer of the Czechoslovak army who went into exile after the Nazis invaded and took over the country. He joined the Czech resistance and was parachuted back into the country as part of Operation Anthropoid: a covert operation to assassinate the Nazi leader Reinhard Heydrich. The group successfully carried out the assassination, however during the subsequent investigation Čurda turned himself in to the Gestapo and claimed the one million Reichsmark bounty in return for betraying the resistance. He didn't know where the actual attackers were, but he willingly gave up the names of the group's local contacts. This led to the resistance contacts being tortured and killed, along with family members who had no idea of their resistance operations, until eventually the paratroopers were found. Čurda was given his reward and resettled under the alias "Karl Jerhot". He married a German woman and spent the rest of the war in hiding. After World War II ended in the Nazi's defeat, Čurda was tracked down by post-war authorities and arrested. He was charged with treason and showed no remorse when confronted with his crimes. He was executed by hanging in 1947.
