Prewitt and Burrows first came to the attention of the police in April 2020, when a 10-second clip of what appeared to be child pornography was found on Prewitt's phone. The couple's homes were searched, revealing a number of videos of both of them raping the two children on their mobiles and tablets. A Skype call between the two in which they discussed their plans was also found.
Prewitt and Burrows were both charged with multiple counts of child sexual abuse, including rape, as well as production of child pornography. The defence claimed that Burrows had a low IQ and was completely under Prewitt's thumb in an attempt to paint her as a victim. Despite this both Prewitt and Burrows were convicted. Both received a sentence of 22 years in prison followed by eight years on licence.
