He abused his powers so often, his barons rebelled and forced him to sign the Magna Carta, severally limiting his powers. However, almost imminently after signing it, he tried to break his promise and even had the Pope declare it invalid. Sick of there King, the English Barons invited the French to invade and overthrow John (a testimate to how bad  he was) John fled, and fortunetly died soon after gorging himself on peaches. As such a the barons withdrew there support from the French and quickly placed his successor Edward I on the throne.
