== Massacre ==
During the [[Nazi]] invasion of Crete in 1941, around 400 Nazi paratroopers were killed by partisans. As a result, paratrooper commander [[Kurt Student]] ordered several reprisals against the populace, the first of which was the Kondomari Massacre. Troops lead by ''Oberleutnant ''[[Horst Trebes]] marched on the village of Kondomari, where a paratrooper had allegedly been mutilated and killed. The soldiers rounded up an undetermined amount of people, estimated at around 23 - 60, and marched them to the orchard, where they shot them. A day later, another reprisal, the [[Razing of Kandanos]], took place under Student's orders.
