Kristallnacht or the night of Broken Glass was a series of violent attacks on the Jews of Germany on 9-10 November 1938 carried out by German civillians and members of the SA whilst the German authorities looked on and did nothing. Jewish owned stores, buildings and synagogues were destroyed, and Jews were attacked or sent to concentration camps. The end result was the streets being covered with broken glass from damage to these places.
