Cachiros or Los Cachiros is the name of a Honduran criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking. It was founded in the early 1990s by a group of ranchers in the departments of Colón and Olancho in Honduras.[1]
One of the Cachiros' leaders, Javier Maradiaga, also known as "Javier Cachiro," turned himself in to the US government in January 2015. During his trial, Maradiaga pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.[2]
After Maradiaga's statement, Honduran authorities seized assets valued between $500 million and $800 million from him. It is estimated that the Cachiros' estate is valued at more than a billion dollars.[3]
