Luis Carrero Blanco (Santoña, Cantabria, Spain, March 4, 1904 - Madrid, Spain, December 20, 1973) was an admiral and politician who held various positions in the Francisco Franco government. He was assassinated by ETA as President of the Spanish Council of Ministers in the last years of the dictatorship. After his death, the Franco regime awarded him the title of Duke of Carrero Blanco. Carrero Blanco was the only member of the government and people close to Franco who could replace the dictator. When this was killed, Francoism was left without a successor. In fact, from now on, no one would be able to gather the full opinion of the dictator and the power groups. Arias Navarro tried, but it was immediately apparent that he had no charisma to gain the support of those who were loyal to the regime and the rest of society.
