The goal of the coup was to dismantle the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Obrenovi%C4%87 House of Obrenović], which had ruled the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Serbia Kingdom of Serbia] for much of the 19th century. King [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_I_of_Serbia Alexander Obrenović], Queen [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draga_Obrenovi%C4%87 Draginja "Draga" Obrenović], and three other high-ranking officials were all assassinated in the coup.
