Michael Anderson Sloan, better known as Michael Godwin, was an American criminal imprisoned for armed robbery at knifepoint. While on work release from prison, he raped a woman named Mary Elizabeth Royem in her apartment before beating her to death with an electric iron. He was sentenced to death for the murder, but his sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment.
During his sentence, Godwin attempted to fix up some headphones so he could watch TV. However, he bit through the wires while trying to attach them. As he was sitting on his cell's metal toilet at the time, he was fatally electrocuted.
