Murder of Walter Scott edit
On April 4, 2015, police officer Michael Slager pulled over Walter Scott for having a damaged brake light. Unfortunately, Scott was wanted for failure to provide child support and fled, with Slager giving chase on foot. Slager chased Scott into a car park behind a shop and tasered him. Scott ran away, leading to Slager shooting Scott five times.[1]
Despite Slager's claim that he had been assaulted by Scott, he was convicted of the murder after a video of Slager shooting Scott, taken by an eyewitness named Feidin Santana, was released by the campaign group Black Lives Matter.[2] He received twenty years in jail, but will probably be released in eighteen.[3]
