Michael Thomas Slager is the murderer of an unarmed black man named Walter Scott who is serving twenty years in prison for deprivation of rights under colour of law.
Murder of Walter Scott
On April 4, 2015, police officer Michael Slager pulled over Walter Scott for having a damaged brake light. Unfortunately, Scott was wanted for failure to provide child support and fled, with Slager giving chase on foot. Slager chased Scott into a car park behind a shop and tasered him. Scott ran away, leading to Slager shooting Scott five times.
Despite Slager's claim that he had been assaulted by Scott, he was convicted of the murder after a video of Slager shooting Scott, taken by an eyewitness named Feidin Santana, was released by the campaign group Black Lives Matter. He received twenty years in jail, but will probably be released in eighteen.
