Mike played a large role in turning Richard into a killer; he showed Richard many Polaroids where he was violating, torturing and killing Vietnamese women, including one picture of him posing with the severed head of a woman he'd killed. Also, he taught Richard techniques to murder with stealth, same that he learned on the army, and also murdered his wife, Jessie, in front of Richard.
