On 7 August 2019, Rodwan's van was stopped by police officers for not having insurance. Rodwan then began shouting at the officers before driving away. When they stopped him again, he began to struggle, and was grabbed by PC Stuart Outten. After PC Outten grabbed him, Rodwan picked up a machete he had in the van with him and hacked him in the head with it four times. However, PC Outten still managed to fire his taser, hitting Rodwan and incapacitating him. PC Outten later recovered after receiving emergency medical treatment. On 23 January 2020, Rodwan was convicted of assault with intent to wound but acquitted of attempted murder. The following day, he was sentenced to 16 years in jail.
